Why a permanent beach?
Rhoose needs a unique facility if it is to provide a sustainable recreational development. The Rhoose Permanent Beach would be designed around a sand pit. We borrowed the idea from the Nivea Yellowave Centre in Brighton.

Why Sand?
Sand is cheap.
Sand is robust.
Sand is simple to maintain.
A 40m x 30m beach would provide a year round surface suitable for:
Beach Football
Beach Rugby
Beach Volleyball
Trampolining

Barry Island has already hosted International Beach Volleyball competitions and the sport is played there during the year, tide and weather conditions permitting. It is logical then for Rhoose to become a centre of excellence in training and playing of this sport.

The advantages of developing at Rhoose are:
A purpose built beach sports venue would have a high legacy value and multiple use potential.
A development in Rhoose could qualify for match funding from the Aggregates Levy Sustainability Fund.
The site is a recovered industrial site, and outline planning permission has been granted previously for a recreational development (golf course and club house).
Rhoose has excellent communication links, in particular rail and air. The site is across from Rhoose Cardiff International Airport Station on the Vale of Glamorgan Line and five minutes from Cardiff International Airport.
There is £100,000 in unclaimed funding from an existing section 106 agreement.
Barry Island is an established area for participation in beach volleyball.
